Wholesome, hand-drawn puzzler Sunset Hills from Cotton Game launched its Kickstarter campaign on June 28, and as of July 4th, there’s less than $700 to go until its $6,800 goal is met.
Nico, the protagonist of Sunset Hills, was inspired by a real-life dog, also named Nico, and a sketch from the lead producer’s girlfriend that depicted a dog who was ready to travel, complete with a dapper outfit and suitcase. For the game, they created a world populated solely by adorable dogs and set in the 20th Century.
In crafting Nico, he became a soldier who had been a soldier on the frontlines and was also a writer. Also somewhat of an introvert, his friends became those who he served with and shared a barracks with. Years after the war ended, Nico, now a published writer, heads on a trip to find the friends he hasn’t seen in years.
According to the Kickstarter page, they’re targeting August 2024 for a release of Sunset Hills on Steam, with other platforms to follow. The game has been in development for over five years, resulting in two chapters. Kickstarter funds will be used to develop the final three chapters. Kickstarter backers who back at the level to receive the game will receive the two finished chapters.
