Gentle Troll Announces Tavern Talk Prequel "Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker"
Set 36 years before the events of Tavern Talk
Fancy another trip to the world of Asteria? This week, Gentle Troll Entertainment announced Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker, a prequel to 2024’s Tavern Talk. Set 36 years before the events of that game, Dreamwalker has you in charge of The Drowsy Dragon, a tavern on the coast of Borkam in southeast Phesoa.
If you’ve played games like Coffee Talk, you get the basic premise of Tavern Talk. You’re the Innkeeper at a cozy tavern, spending your days talking to patrons and whipping up tasty drinks. While Coffee Talk has its cast of colorful and fantastical characters set in a fictional version of Seattle, Tavern Talk fully immerses itself in the high fantasy world we associate with Dungeons & Dragons.
The drinks you mix and your conversations with your patrons shape the story. Not only can you boost different attributes like strength, dexterity, and defense through your drinks, but you can also use rumors you’ve heard to create quests for your guests. (While playing Tavern Talk on its release this year, those two mechanics were where the game truly shone for me. There’s a reason I call this place ‘The Indie Game Cafe,’ after all!)
While we’ll be getting a new setting and cast of characters in Dreamwalker, Gentle Troll isn’t messing with the formula that endeared the first game to so many, making a point to emphasise that deep characters, meaningful choices, and LGBTQ+ positive stories will return. It also looks like quest-creating mechanics were revised for the game as well, as seen in the announcement trailer embedded above.

According to the game’s Steam page, players should expect to see eight characters, a first playthrough of at least 6 hours, and a branching narrative with three endings.
Things are also getting a little sus if you play the first game this month: Until the end of June, the crew from Among Us will be causing a special kind of chaos at the Wayfarer’s Inn thanks to a special, limited-time collaboration with Innersloth.
Tavern Talk Stories: Dreamwalker will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch, with other consoles to be announced. Be sure to wishlist and follow Gentle Troll on social media!
