For Your Wishlist: The Heirloom
Captivating art and an interesting hook led to a successful Kickstarter
Uncover the secrets of your family and your grandfather's old lighthouse as you seek the truth behind the unusual happenings in The Heirloom, a mysterious thriller adventure inspired by the atmosphere of the Hebrides and Scottish folklore! (From Steam)
*Author’s Note: I did back this project on Kickstarter and will be receiving a code for the game*
Babubi Games is an independent development and publishing studio in Deleware, consisting of “two people and one cat doing what they really love.” They’re developing and publishing The Heirloom, the tale of 16-year-old Marla and her younger brother Jack, who have been sent to live with a distant relative in Scotland after tragedy strikes.
It was a screenshot of Marla, with her vibrant red hair, looking scared at something she saw that brought me in to look at the Kickstarter, and the promise of a mysterious and thrilling puzzle game got me to pledge.
And I wasn’t the only one. The Heirloom’s Kickstarter ended at 224% funded, and their Ko-Fi page for late pledges has been as equally successful.
As a fan of games like Oxenfree, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Life is Strange, this game looks like a tribute to those developers' work in the genre. Honestly, these bullet points below sold the game for me, and if you like any of the above games, you’ll be sold as well.
Hear it from the team themselves:
Immerse yourself in the history of the town as you interact with the locals and any items you may find. Uncover the secrets of your family and your grandfather’s old lighthouse as you work to discover the truth behind the unusual happenings.
Not everything can be obtained easily! Solve various puzzles to learn a little more than you should and move on. Search for useful items, combine and use them wisely to achieve your goals.
Which path will you choose: follow the rules or go against them? Trust your heart or follow your mind? Every word you say, and every action you take will definitely have consequences.
As an added bonus, we don’t get many games based in Scotland and the Hebrides, which has always been on my bucket list as a place to go to. (If you’re like me and have that dream, check out A Highland Song too!)

You’ll be able to explore and find the secrets of your family and the lighthouse soon. The Heirloom is slated for release in October for mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
