Foggy Studio’s Broken Shell Swims to Kickstarter on February 13
And you thought Finding Nemo gave you feelings??
Broken Shell is an adorably animated adventure game that stars Mr. and Mrs. Hermit, a delightful pair of Hermit Crabs, “as they navigate through a charming world filled with puzzles, challenges, and heartwarming moments on their heartfelt journey to a better life.”
The demo for Broken Shell went live last year from Foggy Studio, and it was one of my favorite demos of 2024. The game features hand-drawn under-the-sea environments brought to life with vibrant colors, interesting puzzles, and a moment at the end of the demo that left me shell-shocked. (I had to work in at least one pun.)
Ali and Sadegh, the duo that is Foggy Studio, share a love for illustration, animation, and storytelling. They write on their Kickstarter page for Broken Shell that they began developing the game “during a time when one of us felt lost and disconnected” and that the game “became a way to find hope and purpose again.”
The game also carries an important environmental message. Ali and Sadegh hope that players will gain a “deeper appreciation for the environment” and inspire them to preserve it “not just for ourselves, but for all who call it home.”
The Kickstarter page is full of fantastic art and other tidbits about the game, and I encourage everyone to follow when the campaign goes live on February 13. You can play the demo now on Steam, and it looks like Foggy Studio is targeting an October 2025 release for the full game.
